If you want to output a piece of code or in fact anything that requires a fixed width, or is pre-formatted with spaces(tabs) and needs to retain the format, simply enclose it in [code][/code].

For example:
[code]hello this text contains tabs and spaces, but retains it's formatting. It also contains [b]bbcode[/b] but it [i]doesn't[/i] effect it[/code]
